How to Get to Soldier Field: The ‘L’, Metra, Parking and Getting Back

Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears, is at 1410 Special Olympics Drive on Chicago’s Museum Campus, just south of downtown by the lake. There’s no stop called Soldier Field on the ‘L’ (Chicago’s CTA trains), so look for Roosevelt instead. Take the Red, Orange or Green Line there for $2.75 and walk 3/4 mile east. On Metra Electric, get off at 18th Street, which has a walkway to the stadium, or Museum Campus/11th St (Metra fares start at $4.25).

Trains from other cities arrive at Union Station. Most buses use the bus station at 630 W Harrison St, a few blocks south. On Bears game days the #128 express runs from Union Station to the stadium for $5 round trip. If you’re driving to a Bears game, you’ll need to prepay for parking by the stadium.

How to get to Soldier Field without a car

Without a car, Soldier Field is a $2.75 ride on the Red, Orange or Green Line to Roosevelt and a 3/4-mile walk east along Roosevelt Road through the Museum Campus.

On Bears game days: the #128 express runs nonstop to the stadium from Union Station (Jackson Blvd at Canal) and Ogilvie (Clinton at Madison). It’s $5 round trip in cash or on Ventra, and the first buses leave about 2.5 hours before kickoff.

Taking Metra to Soldier Field

Metra’s 18th Street stop has a walkway to the stadium. Metra Electric trains stop there every day, though not every train does, so check the schedule. On Bears game days extra trains stop there.

Chicago Fire soccer matches: the South Shore Line also stops at 18th Street on Oct 6, 10, 14 and 28.
What Metra costs: one-way fares start at $4.25, and Metra sells an all-day pass for weekends and holidays.

How much is parking at Soldier Field?

For the Nov 8, 2026 Bears game, parking at Soldier Field runs about $28 to $43 a car at the Millennium garages and about $55 to $81 on the Museum Campus and at McCormick Place.

Parking for Chicago Fire soccer matches runs about $16 to $21 a car.

Driving up: the lots around the stadium are prepaid only for Bears games, and you can’t park in the neighborhood between Roosevelt Road, Cermak Road, DuSable Lake Shore Drive and Clark Street either. Buy ahead on SoldierFieldParking.com.
The North Garage: mostly season passes for Bears games. Single-game passes for the stadium’s own lots (the North Garage, the Waldron Deck and the South Lot) usually go on sale after Nov 1.
Lots open and close: for Bears games, the lots open four hours before kickoff. They close three hours after a day game and as soon as a night game ends.
Fire matches and concerts: you can pay at the lot or buy ahead on SoldierFieldParking.com, and the price changes from event to event.
Tailgating: allowed on the surface lots, the upper level of the Waldron Deck and McCormick Lots B, D and E. No tents, no grills in the garages, no tailgating after night games and no overnight parking.

The free GEICO shuttle runs from the Millennium Park and Millennium Lakeside garages on Lower Randolph to the 18th Street turnaround by the stadium. It starts 3 hours before kickoff and runs until 2 hours after the game, and anyone can ride it, wherever they parked.

What a Bears game costs your group

Millennium Lakeside with the free shuttle is $28 a car and a Bears lot on the Museum Campus or at McCormick Place is $55 to $81 a car, whatever the group size.

The ‘L’ is the cheapest way to go at every group size. If you’re bringing a car anyway, Millennium Lakeside with the free shuttle costs the least for three or more, and for five people it’s only about 50 cents more than the ‘L’. For two, the cheapest Green Line lot comes out about the same as Lakeside.

Driving in from Milwaukee or Indianapolis: for three people, driving from Milwaukee costs about $60 in gas and parking before tolls, against $126 or more for three Amtrak Hiawatha round trips. From Indianapolis, driving costs about $85 to $97 before tolls, against $180 or more for three bus round trips. Driving wins on cost for three from both cities. The trade is the ride home after a night game: from Indianapolis the last buses leave at 11:10 and 11:40 PM and both are tight, and from Milwaukee the Greyhound at 12:30 AM makes it. On your own, the train from Milwaukee ($42 round trip) and the bus from Indianapolis ($60 round trip) cost less than driving. Gas is at AAA’s Sept 28, 2026 average and 25 mpg.

How do you get back from Soldier Field after a game?

After any game or concert at Soldier Field, the Red Line runs all night from Roosevelt, the last #146 bus leaves the Museum Campus around 11:35 PM (11:40 PM on weekends), and on Bears game days the #128 runs back to Union Station for about an hour.

Long bus trips from places like Indianapolis, Detroit and the Twin Cities tend to cost more if you book the day before you travel than if you book a few weeks ahead.

What airport is closest to Soldier Field?

Midway (MDW) is the closest airport to Soldier Field, about 9 miles southwest, and it’s one train: the Orange Line runs from the terminal to Roosevelt for $2.75, then it’s a 3/4-mile walk.

From O’Hare (ORD): O’Hare is about 17 miles northwest. Take the Blue Line downtown, which takes 40 to 45 minutes and costs $5, then change to the Red Line at Jackson for Roosevelt. The transfer is free.
To your hotel: the Orange Line gets you from Midway to downtown in 20 to 25 minutes.
Back to the airport late: for O’Hare, take the Red Line to Jackson and change to the Blue Line. Both run all night. For Midway, the Orange Line runs until about 1:30 AM and doesn’t run overnight. It starts again around 4 AM on weekdays.

Soldier Field doesn’t allow luggage of any kind, so leave bags at your hotel or in Union Station’s paid bag storage.

Night games in 2026: Thu Oct 22 and Sun Nov 8, usually over around 10:45 PM. After the game, the Red Line runs all night, and the stadium lots close as soon as the game ends.

Where is Soldier Field?

Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears, is at 1410 Special Olympics Drive, Chicago, IL 60605, on Chicago’s Museum Campus by the lake just south of downtown. The nearest ‘L’ stop is Roosevelt, a 3/4-mile walk.

How early should I arrive at a Chicago Bears game?

Gates at Soldier Field open 2 hours before kickoff, the lots open four hours before kickoff if you want to tailgate, and the #128 express starts running about 2.5 hours before kickoff.

Where is the Uber drop-off at Soldier Field?

For Bears games, the team’s rule is that Uber and Lyft drop off and pick up at Balbo and Columbus Drives, north of the stadium. For concerts and other events, drop-off is at the 18th Street turnaround and pick-up is at Balbo and Columbus. Either way, check your event page, since the spots can change. On Bears game days, cabs and rideshares can’t drive onto the Museum Campus at all from 90 minutes after kickoff until an hour after the game.

Does Soldier Field have free parking?

Soldier Field has no free parking: the lots by the stadium are prepaid for Bears games and paid for every other event. One of the cheaper places to leave a car is a CTA lot along the Green Line, and from there it’s $2.75 on the ‘L’ to Roosevelt.

Can you walk from Union Station to Soldier Field?

You can walk from Union Station to Soldier Field, but it’s about 1.6 miles southeast in a straight line and farther on foot. On Bears game days the #128 leaves from outside the station, and any day you can walk three blocks east to Quincy and take the Orange Line to Roosevelt.

Can I bring a bag or luggage into Soldier Field?

Soldier Field allows a clear bag up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches or a one-gallon clear plastic bag, plus a small clutch up to 4.5 by 6.5 inches. That’s the rule at every event, not just Bears games. Luggage of any kind isn’t allowed, so if you’re coming straight from a bus or train, leave your bags first. Union Station has paid bag storage.
